Amazon Prime’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is Comedy Perfection

I love great writing. I adore great writing performed well. I worship great writing performed well by an ensemble cast with the timing of precise jazz musicians playing  thoughtfully off each other with crystal clarity at high speed.

And that is why I am so thrilled by Amazon Prime’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

Created, produced, and written by Amy Sherman Palladino with her husband Daniel Palladino, the creators of the similarly sharp “The Gilmore Girls”, this 2017 gem of a show is set in the emerging Greenwich Village comedy scene of the early 1950’s (complete with Lenny Bruce) as a backdrop to the emergence of an Upper West Side Jewish wife’s comedic genius. The two worlds clash wonderfully.

The cast. The scripts. The wardrobes. That New York feel. And some thoughtful comedic banter full of culture and pure New York. All of it makes this eight-episode season must see, can’t miss, looking for more of it television.
